Fun Facts about Your Brain

GrowingBrain.jpg

  • Your frontal lobes (pre-frontal cortex) are responsible for planning, organizing, prioritizing, changing gears and decision making, among other jobs.  Scientists have decided to call this executive functioning.
  • The frontal lobes are really a collection of “conductors and managers” each focusing on a particular kind of skill or task. They all work collaboratively in a team effort!
  • Multi tasking affects long term memory of new and complex information
  • It is more difficult for middle school and high school students accurately identify facial expressions.
  • The emotional part of your brain is more developed to respond to situations before the rational/logical part does.
  • The area responsible for getting you motivated needs more stimulation than the same region in adults
  • Full “prefrontal lobe” development doesn’t finish up until we are nearly 30, some research has found.
  • Your brain is a flexible organ, continuing to change over time.
