Presentations can be customized or we can deliver our highly sought after workshop "Parenting For Academic Success." This unique, hands-on workshop provides parents with a host of unbeatable tips and strategies for communicating with their teen around school issues and challenges. We also offer a parent-teen workshop where parents and teens can come and work together to build bridges and team effectively.

Teaching for Academic Success Workshop™

Professional Development Workshop for Teachers (4 hours)

Workshop key topics:

  • Overview of the neurocognitive make- up of the teen brain and the way in which executive functions such as attention, working memory, self- regulation and organization play an essential role in school performance.
  • Typical executive challenges faced by high school students as demands increase:
    • Time management
    • Organization of materials and information
    • Planning and prioritizing
    • Note taking and test prep
    • Anxiety, sleep issues, home set up and support
  • Best practices and processes for teaching students to stay organized, plan, prioritize, track assignments and projects, manage time and develop strategies for gathering information from assignments, books and lectures to prepare for exams.
  • What to look for when working with students to identify executive function issues and simple but effective ways for teachers to provide assistance and accommodations
  • Importance of explicit instruction in study strategies in alignment with school coursework

Interactive Workshop for Parents and Their Students (2 hours)

Parents and students team up to learn how to better connect and collaborate to dramatically improve academic performance and communication skills.

Workshop key topics:

  • Better understand what learning styles are and how to use them to develop strategies for success
  • Understand the importance of a strong partnership and simple ways to deescalate conflict around school issues
  • Gain clarity on the truths of the adolescent brain and understand what’s realistic to expect, skill wise.
  • Will learn which strategies are essential at school and at home to enhance, organization, time management and project planning.
